The Department of Urology of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College was established in 1976. As one of the earliest specialized departments at our institution, it is a traditional powerhouse and recognized as a top-tier specialty in Sichuan Province. The department's scientific influence and quality of medical service rank third among all urology departments in the province. It is also the largest and technically strongest urology department in northeastern Sichuan, covering multiple sub-specialties such as urinary stones, urinary tumors, urinary trauma, pediatric urology, female urology, and andrology. In the field of minimally invasive urology, our endoscopic treatment, laparoscopic treatment, seminal vesicle endoscopy, and microscope therapy are all at the forefront in China or within the province.
Our department consists of highly professional, high-quality, and well-structured teams of physicians and nurses. We currently have 28 doctors, including 8 professors, 6 associate professors, 10 attending doctors, and 14 resident doctors. Among them, 9 hold doctoral degrees and 13 hold master's degrees, and 11 master supervisors. Moreover, we have introduced post-doctoral fellows from Harvard Medical School (Professor Tielong Tang), jointly trained PhDs with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Associate Professor Tao Wu), as well as many domestically renowned medical school doctors and graduate students.

Furthermore, there are plans to send doctors from this department to renowned domestic and international hospitals such as the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in the United States, Careggi Hospital at the University of Florence in Italy, Enpoli San Giuseppe Hospital in Italy, Nagoya University in Japan, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, 301 Hospital, Peking University First Hospital, Peking University Andrology Center, and Guangzhou Medical University Minimally Invasive Center for further education and training, enabling them to acquire advanced techniques and concepts in urology both domestically and internationally.
We have set up reasonable facilities including wards, outpatient clinics, special consultation clinics, andrology clinics, assisted reproduction clinics, cystoscopy rooms, urodynamics rooms, stone composition analysis rooms, lithotripsy centers, pelvic floor biofeedback treatment rooms, and andrology examination and treatment rooms. We currently have 121 beds in the urology ward, with an annual outpatient volume exceeding 60,000, nearly 4,000 hospitalizations, and almost 3,500 surgeries per year.
Our department is equipped with advanced medical equipment, including Olympus electronic laparoscope and ultra-high definition laparoscope; Johnson ultrasonic knife system; Olympus ureteral electronic soft mirror; Olympus, STORZ ureteral fiber soft mirror; WOLF, STORZ ureteroscopy; Holmium lasers, EMS ultrasonic ballistic combined lithotripsy and stone removal system, Olympus prostate plasma resection system, bladder endoscope workstation system, multifunctional prostate microwave therapy instrument, male sexual function detection and rehabilitation treatment system, seminal vesicle endoscope, Leica andrology microscope surgery system, semen collector, sperm analysis system, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy system, extracorporeal vibration stone expulsion machine, stone component analyzer, ECG monitor, lower limb venous pump, etc.
On the basis of the research platform of North Sichuan Medical College and its affiliated hospital, our department has also achieved multiple accomplishments in basic and clinical research fields. Our department personnel have been in charge of three national natural science foundation projects, one international collaborative project, over ten provincial-level and ministerial-level projects, and more than 50 projects at the bureau level. The total research funding amounts to over 2 million yuan. We have received one first prize for scientific and technological progress in Sichuan Province, one third prize for scientific and technological progress in Sichuan Province, and one second prize for youth medical science and technology award in Sichuan. Additionally, we have authored or contributed to two medical monographs, obtained two invention patents, and published over 200 academic papers, including more than 30 SCI papers.
The department undertakes theoretical and clinical teaching work for clinical graduate students, international students, and undergraduates of North Sichuan Medical College, as well as study management work for continuing education students. At the same time, the department is the national Ministry of Health urological endoscopy training base, the national resident doctor standardized training base, the Sichuan province specialist doctor training base, training multiple county-level urologists every year, promoting the regional development of urology in northeastern Sichuan.
Our department has undertaken multiple national and provincial continuing education project classes, focusing on discussing new theories, new technologies, and new methods in the field of urology, inviting well-known experts and scholars with rich clinical experience and deep theoretical research in related fields to give lectures, and carry out academic discussions and exchanges, providing a good academic exchange platform for medical experts in northeastern Sichuan.
In recent years, under the leadership of Vice President Shu Cui and Director Xianzhong Deng, our department has achieved significant development in various aspects such as medical treatment, teaching, and research. Our professional technical level is at an advanced level in the country. The department has strong technical strength, advanced medical equipment, comprehensive sub-specialty settings, reasonable personnel structure, and shoulders the heavy responsibility of promoting the clinical and basic research and professional talent cultivation of urology in northeastern Sichuan. With a people-oriented approach and patient-centered focus, we continuously improve our medical technology and service quality, using our rich clinical experience, high-quality medical services, advanced technology equipment to serve patients in northeastern Sichuan.
